How are you today? Did you had a nice weekend?

As you'll know by now, Heleen and I are fond of visiting
all kind of thriftstores and fleemarkets.

Usualy you can find us there early on a Sunday morning.

Sometimes we're lucky and sometime not.

So yesteday I was looking for handles to go with the crochet bag.

And look here....I found a pair

I think they would look great!

And I made a first attempt to crochet this fabulous crochet blanket

The first four blocks...

and if I may say so myself..

not bad, not bad at all.

I'm afraid a new adiction is born!

Hallo everyone,

Yesterday I came across these two cute Dutch ladies in the thriftshop.

Instead of being in a frame,

they will be drinking there cup of tea on a new bag!

The ladies are embroidered so pretty..

They even have golden detaills.

A few posts ago I told you about the new Cath Kidston book I bought.

Wel I finished the little stitchery that was included.

I had to embroider on a plastic looking 'stramien'

(it's supose to be soluble)

And now it's time to do the test..

and wash it.

I used hot tap water and rubbed real softly.

The plastic layer mraculous dissipated as yellow carmine.

What a great invention this is!

Now it only has to dry and I can make the little purse.

So enough to do this weekend.

And for you all a little bit of spring,

with these flowers (in thriftshop scales).

We went thrift shopping this morning

With the Cath Kidston book came a little piece of water soluble

embroider 'fabric', ('stramien' we say)

The first thing I thought was, Whauw what an invention!

But.... does anyone has experience with this?

Is it really soluble?

I'm curious about your experiences.

Into the clutch

Hallo everyone,

I'm into making clutch bags!

It's fun to make this bag.

For this clutch I used a knitted sweater and other fabrics.

I made a few changes from the original pattern,

like the little loops to attach a shoulderband.

Can't wait to start a new clutch.

Although I have another tempting craft I can do..

This (for me) new Cath Kidston stitch book ,

has a small purse to embroider and sew.

And so many other cute ideas!

They make my hands itch.

the mailman brought it.

I always make my own patterns

but I was curious about this book..

and its patterns.

Now I'm so pleased, this book is ful of great bags!

And it's so inspiring that I had to start sewing one.
I choose the 'elegance pleated clutch' and it was so much fun,

It was my the kids desire to have the quilt ready before this weekend.

(yes they want to lie under a quilt when they watch tv)

So this mornig I made the last stitches and

finished the binding.

I think this quilt turned out just as I hoped it would!

I'm really happy with the result but also feel a little regret ...

it was such a wonderful quilt to work on!

Guess I just have to start making a new one!

Made this new shopper with embroidered lady

and Dutch folc fabric.

And speaking of 'shopper'.. have to go,

grocerie shoping.

Today after work I made myself some tea with

~~homemade apple pie~~ a coockie and opened the mail.

A big envelope and the coocking magazine Delicious.

(I might gain some ideas for dinner this evening)

I'm so happy, the fabic from Den Haan en Wagenmakers

arrived in the big envelope!

I need for the binding.

Can't wait to finish the quilt.

Now I browse through the magazine..

no easy ideas for todays meal.

But a great recipe for apple pie!

I think we'll have a quick meal today..

So I can start making pie and sew the binding!

I used my new bias maker for making the binding,

Just a quick post on something i did this morning

Yesteday i went to a fleemarket with Heleen

and found a lovely vintage embroidered tea cosy cover in good condition

So this morning I picked some fabrics to make a matching insert.

Red and white check and polka dots and

a vintage white button on top..

I think it looks lovely...

I have this small embroidered bird I found on a flee market some time ago.

I also had some leftovers from this project

The colors of these Japanese fabrics match perfectly with the little bird.

they make a lovely pillow by adding them together.

my street with houses grows slowly
with emphases on slowly!

I finished the December block for

the "bloggers block of the month"quilt

I machine sewn the top of the scrappy nine patch quilt.

I first thought of quilting this one with the machine,

but it didn't turn out so well

so it's hand quilting instead....

The holiday season is over and life is as good as normal again.

Slowly I put Christmas decorations back in storage.

So here we are...A new year, a fresh start...

No resolutions this year

I'll just see what comes my way.

Building a house each day, a year long.

She asked who wanted to join her in the fun

I tried, I really tried hard not to get tempted..

But I failed badly!!

Love this time of year !

And this time I found something special to show you,

A small rug that was framed.

My mother said,

it are little banner images that came with a pack of cigarettes before the war

(around 1940) and people collected them.

I love how they are sewn together

and wonder

who it could have made and in what circumstances.

Tonight we celebrated Sinterklaas with the traditional presents,
pepernoten en marsepein. We had a very lovely time.
Today the Sint silently leaves and goes back to Spain.

For me that is the moment to start with a few
Christmas decorations here and there.
I can't wait..So to get me into Christmas spirit I browsed through

Tutorial: Recycled Christmas-card with crochet scallop edge

Do you also find it difficult to throw away old Christmas cards?

Here’s a way to give them a second life.

Add a crochet scallop edge, some beads and buttons and a loop.

Tada…an old Christmas card is transformed in a lovely ornament.

What do you need:

· Christmas card

· Cotton or wool yarn

· Crochet needle (I use a 2.5 )

· Needle to punch holes

· Soft board to protect your table

· Some beads or buttons

Use your needle to punch holes around the ede of the card

Start by punching holes in the corners and then try to evently space them apart.

Start with a slip stitch in one hole, than make 3 or 4 chain stitches

(depends on the space between the two holes) , than one slip stitch in the next hole.

Repeat this until you reach the hole in the corner.
Make one slip stitch, 4 chain stitches, and one slip stitch in the same corner hole.

crochet this way around the edge of the card.

To make a scallop I crochet under a chain loop:

1 slip stitch, 1 single crochet, 2double stitches, 1 single stitch, 1 slip stitch.

Work your way around all loops.

Crochet a loop from chain stitches at the top of the card

Hang beads or buttons at the bottom

and your recycled Christmas card is finished!

Ofcourse you can use different colors, shapes or decorations.

I LOVE squares!! I really do.
I think squares are easy to piece by machine
because a square is nice and simple and has four equal sides.
And by using different colours and fabrics all kind of patterns can be made.
Plus it's easy to sew, no difficult curves.

I'm making a nine patch from bits and pieces that are lying around my cutting table.

I use a small rose on white print for the stripes and dark blue/white checked fabric for the corner stones.

By coincidence I came across this fabric that matches perfect with my log cabin Autumn quilt. Great to make the backing from.

Today I made this heart,

The bird on this heart is embroidered with little stitches.

I found the bird in the thrifthshop.

I love robin birds!

Today I also made another hearth

(oost west thuis best)

but it was to dark to make good photo's.. maybe tomorrow.

Now I'm going to read the new Flow magazine,

I saw there's an interview in it with Karina Schaapman.

Today I started cutting the fabrics from

De Haan en Wagemakers for my new red chair quilt.

At first glance you would say that the pieces are simply laid quickly ...
But I have tried to play with light and dark, and a fair distribution of colors.

I have them here, bundled, in small piles
so I can sew them in the right order.

Found these cute new ribbons for the loops
of the hearts and other ornaments.

Look at this match box...

Inside is a small bed with a sweet mouse
under a knitted blanket

I couldn't resist this book in the bookstore.Two tiny mice were staring at me from the coverThey are called Sam & Julia Karina Schaapman is the author and creator of this book   She made the scenery of the book herself The mouse mansion is made out of cardboard boxes and papier-mache and all kinds of waste material.The mansion counts more than a hundred rooms, alleys and outdoor spaces.I think it's absolutely adorable!  The story is about best friends Julia and Sam, two mice.
They live in the mouse mansion, a world in itself.
Julia lives on the sixt floor mid back.
She lives there with her mother in very very small room.
They sleep together in a bed. Julia is super curious and opinionated.
She doesn't like boring and as soon as she is bored she goes outside. On adventure. With her friend Sam. Sam lives in the mid front side of the mouse mansion.
He lives there with his father, mother, brothers and sisters.
He has two grandpa s, two grannies, a few aunts and an uncle.
Sam is super, super shy and obedient.
Together with Julia he does things he otherwise would never dare.
What Sam has too much, Julia has too little and vice versa.

look at all the little details...so cute!

Mine was lovely. No obligations, perfect weather...

Yesterday was our son's birthday.

And on your birtday you can always choose what cake you want.

Now, he wanted two kind of cakes,

One cheesecake (raspberries and blackberries taste) and his other favorite is

Tiramisu!

If you want to make it, look at this tutorial.

I always used fresh egg yolks (raw).. But now I found this,

Pasteurized egg yolk! (so no more fear for salmonella bacteria)

And it worked great. The only thing is, I only needed a little bit...

Guess I have to make more tiramisu this week.

Now for the cheesecake I alway use this,

A easy to make package the only thing I change is fresh blendered fruit from the garden in stead of water.

And the taste is yummie!

Today we ate the left overs and enjoyed it even more!

crafty pleasures...

It was a busy week.
but somehow i managed to squeeze in some craft time.

I knitted a star. Just love making these cute stars.
It's such a nice little project I can do in front of the tv.(I am writing a Dutch translation of the star tutorial)

The star size depends on the thickness of the yarn and needles.I think the little one would look lovely in a christmas tree.

The house above was made for me by my sil.
It was only last Sunday that I told him about my idea
for which I would need a carpeter and wood.
And look.... what a surprise!!!
He has built exactly what I had in mind.
I will tell you more about this idea once I'm done with painting windows and a door.

And to end this crafty pleasure post....
for another granny bag I crocheted 24 squares together.
I hope to squeeze in some craft time this weekend as well.

I'm back to knitting
I was wondering if the skeins of wool that I use for crochting grannies are also suitable for knitting...and they are.
I'm knitting starpoints

for a star like these, but in a smaller version.

Noah's ark is coming along nicely.
* stitcheries... done,
* sewn strip...done (I cheated a little here and there)

* Date and title are done
* Quilting and binding...not done yet.

The advantage of working in education is that both,

the kids and me have holidays

at the same time.

And this week we have 'Herfstvakantie' (autumn holidays).

So time for some shopping,

Bought this cute necklace watch at Oude liefde

Time to do some coocking and baking with the kids,

There's a stew on the stove and it's smelling in the house..hmmmm.

And time for some sewing,

A bag with a Dutch embroidered windmill.

And This is also a week to

do a little nothing but

walking outside in the woods,

a bit of houscleaning,

hanging on the couch,

watching a movie,

read a good book.....

Think I'm going to need another week off...

We spent a lovely day in Amsterdam yesterday.

And this morning I was still afterglowing,

(enjoying the things I bought).

It was great to find new addresses and buy little things

Noah's ark

Nearly 3 years later and I finally finished the 12 stitcheries.
Actually I did 11. Number 12 is still empty. I left it empty on purpose so I can add the exact finishing date.Luckily i did because I started this in march 2008.Noah's ark is a stitch-along BOM from Lynette anderson designs.
Now for the last stap; sewing strips and make it fit.
This was a very lovely BOM to do...although it took so long for me to make all the sticheries.

What's in the box?

Today I came across this box thinking,

'what did I put in here?'

I thought it was embroidery thread...

But when I opened the box,

It is something completely different.

In the box are the little bears I made.

And in the middle is White little Bear,

The old cuddle bear of our son.

It was always so cute how he (we) cuddled this bear.

(You can put your hand in the bear and than he really comes to live.)

Oh, it's unbelievable how fast our kids grow up.

Guess I have cherish this bear and memory.

Ok, little bear is going back in the box,

but I had to put my hand in for just a minute and he's waving to you all.

We went for an early walk in de woods.

And it was just magical.

The light is so pretty this time of the day.

First I was in doubt of the color,but I think it turned out great!

Today I found these two cute little pigs,

They are on the cover of this book,

I couldn't resist buying this book

and now I almost spend my whole day reading in the sun.

The other thing I did was going to the thrifth store

and found these beauty's

Now I feel a little guilty doing no washing, no ironing, no cleaning, ~~no coocking~~.

Ok I will prepare a meal..

Our mothers famous attic. One of our favorite places to shop.
Heleen and I regularly sniffing around looking for something we can use.
And I must say... we are rarely disappointed.
Over the years she build a wide collection of beautiful materials.
Wool, yarn, fabrics and other bits and pieces.
She sure has a good eye for beautiful things and for detail!

What a nice sisterday Corry and me had!

First we drove to the thriftstore.

This Thrifthstore is in a beautifull old farm.

We wanted to take pictures to show you, but we forgot our camera.

Than

we drove trough the Dutch country side,

it's such a beautiful weather today,

to a cute living store where we boughth the calander for the year 2012

We ended with a late lunch in the cutest little old town Heusden.

Again without camera!

Meanwhile our cat 'Bear' spend the day sleeping on ~~his~~ my favorive quilt.

(After chasing and hunting all night he enjoyed being home alone.)

Just heard on the radio the weather is going to be great this weekend.

Time to swim? No but a bbq would be yummie.

And as I was going through, the magazine seems to match this time..

A great article about Frederique Morrel.

She makes the most incredible art from vintage embroidery!

No bags, but that is what I love to make from vintage embroidery!

Today I finished this one, it's a gift for my mom.
The bag with the fisherman is in the shop and one of my favorites.

On page 120 'alleen op de wereld' from Hector Malot.

And on page 105 these beautiful roses!

Witch just matches this rose bag.

There's only one thing I want to match too..

bold and (almost) beautiful

I’m a huge fan of applique quilts, especially applique by hand. I love the play with color and design,the different techniques. In short... I love the whole process! You would think that someone who is
a fan of applique has a lot to show here, right! Sorry, but I must disappoint you.
In all my quilting years I only managed to finish one applique quilt.
This vogeltjes quilt (bird quilt) for my daughter. I still am pretty proud, if I do say so myself!

I’m proud of the tiny stitches. The whole quilt is hand made without any glasses! Well, those days are over. Today I use +1.5 glasses to (try) make tiny stitches. I'm already happy if they are even!
But that doesn’t keep my fingers from itching whenever I see a beautiful appliqué quilt.
Like the ones you can find at glorious applique and the Dutch glorious applique blog
I love to make Kim McLean's flower basket medallion quilt some day.

But there is some unfinished business waiting for me first.

I started this one during an applique course called
Bold and beautiful.

It's something like a never-ending project.

Weekend...

Hello you, remember me? How are you'll doing?

I'm glad things are back to normal here and it's finally weekend.

I've tried to stay in vacation mode for as long as possible

but after a busy schedule at work....

I wish I had vacation again (lol)!

August past so quickly. And what a lovely month it was!

The first half we spent in the south of France.

I made lots of granny squares.

one cushion has a green edge and one pink.

We also celebrated the birthdays of two birthday girls..

Sofie 1 year and Luca 3 year. They are growing so fast!!

Crochet bag

Corry made this cute crochet bag and I'm finishing it with the lining,

the strap and a little inside pocket.

I had to make a pattern for the lining.

(made a few actually before I got it right)

Now it's almost finished. Only the strap..

I was a little in doubt whether to make a pink or beige strap...

Now what do you think? I could do both?

Hi everyone,

It's a drizzly afternoon

with hard rain

and a verry tiny little bit of sun

every now and then.

A perfect moment to do some sewing

or..

a nap!

(I know a tucked in kat, how silly is that?!#

.. my youngest spoils Bear.

and he seems to love it!)

It's also the perfect moment to do what I love most...

Making new combinations with fabric, band and embroidery.

Have to search for some fabrics with this embroidery.

Guess it's time to pay a vistit to our mom's attic..

Hallo everyone.

We're back again.

Hope you all had a great summer,

We had a great time camping in France and Spain.

It was raining when we came back

but this summer birthday cake made us forget to look outside!

And even if the sun was shining,

there was so much to do in the house..

Hang these new shelfs,

Read the new Flow magazine,

New summer flowers to put in a vase,

And of course so, so, so much laundry!

When that was finished I finaly found my sewing machine
and made this new bag!

Now I hope the rainy days are over..

So we can spend a few more days at the beach.

It's great to be back!
